
Jerome Nash serves as the Director National Security Solutions and Services (NS3) where he delivers overall support to the Office of the Secretary and provides classified communications (voice and data) needed to support and protect the Secretary of Commerce. These classified communication requirements are mandated by Federal policy to meet a baseline of minimum communications requirements to enable Executive Branch agency heads to collaborate and direct execution of essential functions from headquarters or alternate locations under all conditions; Protect classified information through programs that safeguard against insider threats; and ensure the security of classified electronic communications. His NS3 team provides operation, management and monitoring of network security systems and devices, information assurance policy development, and vulnerability and patch management, public key infrastructure support to the Department of Commerce (DOC) Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the other bureaus with meeting cyber and national security objectives. Jerome is currently dual hatted as the Office of Secretary Chief Information Security Officer (OS CISO).
In his role as OS CISO he’s responsible for implementing OS cybersecurity policies, standards and guidance and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information technology (IT) systems, networks, and data in support of the OS mission. He also serves as the principal advisor to the DEP CIO for the OS information security program. He’s responsible for performing and supervising work associated with risk management, policy, compliance, and oversight in alignment with DOC and the CIO’s Technical Statement of Direction to include strategic direction and provides the cybersecurity oversight for departmental IT services across OS.
Prior to joining the DOC, Mr. Nash spent 4 years at Small Business Administration as the Chief, Governance Compliance and Risk Management. He delivered technical cyber security analysis and recommendations to tie multiple systems to the agency’s lines-of-business and improved operational efficiencies. Mr. Nash collaborated with organizational managers to support the Administrations objectives: identify IT security program implications of new technologies or upgrades. He also developed, initiated, maintained, and revised policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance Program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
Jerome has proudly served 24 years on active duty as an officer in the United States Air Force. He supported various missions world-wide, to include a special duty assignment with the 789th Communications Squadron supporting Air Force One. Mr. Nash has a combination over 30 years of federal government experience to include the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University, a Master’s degree in Computer Information Resource Management from Webster University, a master’s degree in Cyber Security Technology from University of Maryland University College, a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix, along with several cyber security professional certifications.
Key memberships include Mount Ennon Baptist Church, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Military Officers Association of America, and the African American Chamber of Commerce. He is also a recipient of the Department of Commerce Bronze Award in 2020.
